With 7 games left in the season, it appears the NCAA tournament is almost set. There should be two teams from Hockey East, three each from ECAC and CCHA and 4 trom the WCHA. Most likely the 8 teams vieing for championship trophies, miami, vermont, and denver will all be in the tournament. The 12th spot will most likely belong to the victor of the Colorado College vs St Cloud wcha third place game. It looks like there will be 1 bye per conference. Two of the byes will most likely go to clarkson and michigan. The other two should be determined this evening. One should go to the Hockey East champion (Boston University or New Hampshire) and the other to the WCHA champion (North Dakota or Minnesota) Finally, it appears that both michigan state and cornell might improve their ranking to third in their respective regions with victories. here's my cut on the numbers. They agree with the USCHO figures, but are computed by a vastly different program. index team games win % last 20 tuc rpi won ----- ---- ----- ----- ------- --- --- --- 1 Michigan 39 87.18 82.50 75.00 62.49 20 2 Clarkson 35 77.14 90.00 66.67 60.56 19 3 Minnesota 39 70.51 72.50 56.82 58.53 17 4 North Dakota 39 71.79 70.00 61.90 58.31 17 5 New Hampshire 37 75.68 65.00 46.15 59.58 15 6 Vermont 35 67.14 67.50 52.38 58.04 15 7 Maine 32 67.19 80.00 58.33 56.50 15 8 Boston University 37 70.27 72.50 40.91 57.00 13 9 Michigan State 37 64.86 65.00 65.62 54.81 12 10 Miami 37 71.62 62.50 52.78 57.85 11 11 Denver 39 64.10 65.00 56.82 55.48 10 12 Cornell 32 67.19 65.00 53.33 56.26 9 13 Colorado College 40 60.00 57.50 47.83 55.62 9 14 St Cloud 39 64.10 60.00 44.74 54.54 7 15 Princeton 33 60.61 50.00 44.44 54.13 6 16 Rensselaer 35 60.00 55.00 44.12 53.28 5 charlie shub University of Colorado at Colorado Springs [log in to unmask] -or- [log in to unmask] -or- [log in to unmask] (719) 262-3492 (fax) 262-3369 http://www.cs.uccs.edu/~cdash HOCKEY-L is for discussion of college ice hockey; send information to [log in to unmask], The College Hockey Information List.
