As a native of Minnesota I must reluctantly admit that
college basketball is much more widely followed than
hockey in our state. The local media have been gushing
over the Gopher hoops team all year and particularly in the
last couple of weeks. Meanwhile the hockey team is all but
ignored despite having another fine season. I know that some
of this stems from the fact that the basketball team has never
reached this level before but the bias towards college basketball
is undeniable. On the high school level the hockey tourney is
still more popular despite the fact that it has split into a two class
format and could be on the way to becoming watered down like
the four class basketball tournament. MSC should have never
promised to televise the Denver-BU game if they weren't committed
to showing it in it's entirety. Cutting away to a non-event like the
William's Arena rally is inexcusable especially since the Gopher's
didn't arrive until after 11pm.
