There is a 17 day break between tonight's Cornell-Colgate game in Hamilton and the next league game for either team, and that should dispel any concept of momentum starting here. This is an unusually "isolated" game; an island of conference relevance within a four week stretch. These two squads matched up at Lynah on December 3 with Cornell winning and running their conference record to 6-1. In 4 league contests since then, the Big Red are winless, having picked up just two points (a .125 pct over that stretch). In fact the story of Cornell's 8 games since the Colgate win is of one nail-biter after another: On Dec. 6, RPI broke a tie with 2 goals in the final minute to beat Cornell 4-2. On Dec. 7, Union scored with their goalie pulled in the final minute to tie, 3-3. On Dec. 27, Cornell beat Providence in triple overtime, 4-3. On Dec. 28, The Big Red "routed" Merrimack 4-1 to pick up the SIT title. On Jan. 3, Cornell battled host SLU to a 1-1 draw. On Jan. 4, Clarkson handed Cornell their worst loss, 5-2, spiced with an empty netter. On Jan. 7, Cornell traveled to Michigan and tied the nation's #1, 3-3... On Jan. 11, back safely at home, they followed with a sloppy 1-1 tie to Army. So... 8 games, 2-2-4, 5 overtimes... a real mix. On the other hand, Colgate is 3-0-1 / 5-1-1 over the same period, including a sweep in the North Country. And 'Gate would like nothing better than revenge for last year's drubbing in the QF at Lynah. So the Red Raiders look like they're in the right place, and Cornell's recent stumblings make this look like the right time. Hmm... Greg Berge Let's Go Red!
