I have to question the attacks on "obnoxious" fans. Personally, I think it helps add character to games as well as rivalries. For example, tomorrow Cornell hosts Colagte (if my sched is right) and a large contingent of Colgate supporters always invades Lynah. The result is a constant trading of jeers and remarks and outright insults between Cornell fans and Colgate fans. Everyone has a good time though. As a Cornell fan, I look forward to Cornell/Colgate for that reason almost as much as for the quality hockey. Last year, I took a basketball roadtrip to watch Cornell at Penn and Princeton. The Penn arena (the Palestra) was virtually sold out with standing, fist-pumping, LOUD Penn fans who proceeded to heckle several Cornell players and generously remained loud and "rude" throughout the game. As I left, my first reaction was "wow, what a bunch of obnoxious jackasses". After a few minutes, I discovered my actual thoughts were more "wow, I wish Cornell basketball fans were like this." OK so that wasn't hockey related, but I find that I enjoy games from the crowd is loud and rowdy, even if they are rooting for the other team. It adds a different dimension to the game and as long as you don't take anything said personally, it shouldn't be particularly disturbing.
