The team wasn't really that competitive, which was sad to see. (especially since the tourny was held in the U.S.). This years team seems to reflect maybe a bit more the 'best team' available. Seven players on the roster play major junior. One reason to have these guys other than the fact that they are good, they play twice as many and sometimes more games than college players. At the time of the tourny most major junior teams have played over 40 games.....while college teams are around the 20 game mark, if that. The goalies from the WHL and OHL most likely have quite few more minutes between the pipes than Western Michigans tender. This might have something to do with decision. One of college hockeys limiting factors is that you play a forty game season at the most..some schools only play 30 games....most NHL teams that draft a player out of highschool will recommend....(eg Jamie Langenbruner) to play Major Junior(80 games plus playoffs).....more games to develop means quicker development....which means in the NHL faster.... ...I hope the U.S. team does better this year, I'm sure they will....Bob Mancinni and Jeff Jackson know what they are doing!!!!!!!!!! ****************************************************************************** JASON ROY * * CBC's UNIVERSITY OF MANITOBA * * HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA [log in to unmask] * * "The Tradition Continues" GO 21 * GO TECH / GO CANADA * * Molson Canadian GO STARS * * GO BILL BERG *** *** The Tragically Hip ****************************************************************************** A loose puck doesn't know who's....BigGeR, StRoNger, or DrAfTed hIgheR.
