Was this just a mythical >championship based on overall record or record against other Big10 >schools or am I just hallucinating? I believe that the championship was actually awarded by the Big 10, but since the teams competing for it were all in the WIHL/WCHA, it did not interfere with their real conference schedules--you see the same situation with the ECAC and the Ivy League today. Michigan also had the banners, but took them down after last season. Note for further discussion: they also removed their WIHL and WCHA championship banners & left only banners for NCAA Championships (8), NCAA Runners Up (2), CCHA regular season championships (4), and CCHA tournament championships (2). What have other teams that have switched conferences done? Does NMU still have its CCHA banners? What about HE teams that were in the ECAC? Note: I am certain Minnesota and/or Wisconsin won the last Big 10 championship in 1980-81. Does anybody know who? After the 1980-81 season, Michigan & MSU joined the CCHA, ending the awarding of the Big 10 Championship.
