Ryan Mittleman, formerly of Boston College, is now playing with Windsor in the OHL. Last year, Ryan was the third leading freshman scorer in Hockey East. This year, in his first game for BC, he had a goal and three assists. Immediately after that game, Jerry York benched Ryan, and purportedly told him that he was being benched for having "slow feet". Shortly thereafter, Ryan chose to leave BC. The timing of Ryan's demotion is certainly suspicious to me, coming shortly before the NCAA early signing period. Could it be that Jerry York was attempting to free up a scholarship by causing Ryan to quit? If my memory serves me correctly, a similar incident, involving a goalie, allegedly occurred at Bowling Green a few years ago, when Jerry York was coaching there. How can a player who was the third leading rookie scorer in Hockey East, suddenly develop "slow feet" after only one game where he scored four points? Perhaps Ryan overreacted by leaving school after being benched. However IMHO the timing of Ryan's benching is awfully suspicious.
