It's a consistent pattern, even if you just check this >weekend's boxscores. I know that some of this weekend's games featured a lot of penalties, but this isn't exclusively a factor of Canadian vs. American. And I don't know if you can make any generalizations about "over-age 'kids'". The University of Ottawa team played a little physical in the game with BC on Friday, but it wasn't anything other than regular hockey. No gooning involved. And that team appeared to be quite young -- mostly 19 through 21-year-olds, with a few older. The oldest was a senior just shy of his 24th birthday. A lot of the New England schools have players that have gone through preps or juniors before getting a scholarship -- so even the freshmen are sometimes 20 or 21 years old (Canadian or American.) A related factor may be the nature of the games -- early season tune-up/ exhibitions. Also, the refereeing style may be different than the Canadian schools are used to, etc. Doug Garn <[log in to unmask]> said: >How come all the boxes I see on INFO-HOCKEY-L and on the college related >web sites don't include the penalties and times by the players? If I was running a web site I probably would include only a simple box without any penalty listing for general public use, but try to provide a link to a more detailed listing if possible, for those who want the "dirty details." There is a space and time issue here; without a large staff it is hard to maintain so much information in a timely fashion. I do post the full summary for the BC games to INFO-HOCKEY-L, including penalties. But I know that USCHO strips out most of my info before providing the box score on their web page, and the penalty info is taken out. I go out of my way to get the game summary sheet and then review and retype the entire game report that I provide -- no disk-friendly files or faxes or other aids to help. And I have to go to my machine at work to produce and send the report to the mailing list. Overall, each game report normally takes me several hours to get, review, edit, and post. If it takes me that long to do my one report, imagine how long it would be for USCHO (for example) to have to do the same for many, many games? They also want to maintain a consistent format for their boxes, quite different from the HOCKEY-L world where everyone has their own personal format. (And I like mine, thank you very much. But I am considering whether it might be better to format it differently so it would be more consistent with other formats/box scores.) -- Rick -------------------- ---------------------- Rick McAdoo [log in to unmask] "Volunteer reporter" A positive BC fan.
