For full story see the College Hockey Homepage's version at: http://maine.maine.edu/~dtread41/93title.html The NCAA's Executive Committee met and ruled today that the University of Maine will retain their 1993 National Title. The committee based their decision on several facts: * that USA Hockey told Mike Dunham's family that accepting the stipend was indeed within NCAA guidelines. * since the Dunham family received the check, THEN called USA Hockey to check on the issue the NCAA concluded that the Dunham's acted in "good faith" and the fault lied with USA Hockey's distribution of misinformation. * that the University of Maine had no knowledge of Dunham accepting a stipend. * that the Cal Ingraham situation was thrown out by the NCAA's Committee on Infractions because to penalize Maine again (Ingraham and Maine were already penalized for messing up his transfer) would be what the NCAA calls "double-jeopardy". --- Deron Treadwell - [log in to unmask] Orono, Maine Home of the (now and forever) 1993 National Champions
