I join Hockey-L and the general hockey community in bidding a very fond, yet sad adieu to Tom Mees. In short, he was the catalyst for my interest and excitement towards college hockey. Growing up in Hawaii, I had no exposure to the sport. The only games I had seen in my entire life were the games at the Lake Placid Olympics; but, I was 10 at the time, and nobody in the house knew what the heck icing was, when faceoffs were called, blah blah blah. In the spring of my senior year of high school, I knew I was heading off to Boston University, but had no idea of what kind of hockey tradition the school had. Heck, I didn't know that there even was such as thing as NCAA Division 1 Hockey. That spring however, I watched the NCAA championships on ESPN, after hearing that "hockey was big in New England, you better learn a little bit about it." Tom Mees produced a 5 or 10 minute piece on the "tradition" of college hockey, citing (among others such as Cornell, Wisconsin, Michigan, etc) that the Boston area has some of the richest hockey history. Once he brought up the Beanpot and the BU-BC rivalry, I knew right then that I would become a rabid hockey fan of not just the Terriers, but of college hockey in general. I was hooked, without ever seeing ice or snow in my life. Thank you, Tom Mees. greenie ______________________________________________________________________________ Jason Greene [log in to unmask] Multimedia Animator Leopard Communications www.leopard.com Boulder, Colorado HOCKEY-L is for discussion of college ice hockey; send information to [log in to unmask], The College Hockey Information List.
