The NCAA's Committe on Infractions has likely already decided Maine's fate. However, the decision and report haven't been made public yet. Maine Athletics Director Suzanne Tyler told reporters upon returning from the hearing that one of the committee members said this summer's caseload is one of the heaviest in years. This could delay things. Reports at the time said it could take anywhere from five to eight weeks for the decision to be announced. And if you look at the calendar, that means any day now. I haven't heard anything about how the decision will be announced. Will the NCAA give the report to Maine officials, who will then issue a press release and a press conference, regardless of the decision? Will the NCAA issue its own press release? Will the decision be announced immediately? Or will the announcement be delayed, ala the O.J. Simpson verdict? (Not that this is on par with the Simpson trial!) No, I don't think there will be live TV coverage in the local area. But it would be nice if the NCAA let the media and public know when the decision will be announced, rather than having the decision come down by surprise or worse, placed in the hands of the Maine administration to put a spin on any negative consequences. _____________________________________________________________________ Ryan Robbins "Nothing in fine print is ever good news."
