Several postings to HOCKEY-L over the past week or so have dealt with the NHL
or AHL playoffs and with former collegiate players who appeared in them. This
is just a reminder that the general policy of the hockey lists is that infor-
mation and/or discussion on college players and coaches signing professional
contracts is appropriate, but that discussion of pro hockey, even as it relates
to the careers of former college players or coaches, is not appropriate.

The reason for this policy is simple. HOCKEY-L exists for the discussion of
college hockey: games, scores, teams, players, coaches, officials, etc. etc.
Once a college player or coach has gone on to the pros, what he or she does
there generally has little, if any, relevance to the college game. There are
dozens (and that may be an understatement) of former college players in the
pros at some level, and throwing HOCKEY-L's doors open to updates on their
professional careers could very easily overwhelm what is already a very busy
list during the season -- and could also serve to obscure or crowd out some
discussion on college hockey issues. Thus, pro hockey tidbits on HOCKEY-L are
discouraged.

I would be happy to discuss this issue with anyone -- off-line, of course,
not on HOCKEY-L. Thank you.
