I'd hardly call Bowling Green or Miami (not Miami of Ohio) have nots. BGSU was a 1980s powerhouse and has been the "13th team" for the NCAA tournament for two years running. Only upsets in the ECAC tournament have kept them out. Don't forget where the 1995 Hobey Baker winner came from, too. MU is once again a middle- of-the-pack CCHA club, but they won the CCHA regular season in 1992-93 and participated in the 1993 NCAA tourney. Granted, MU *appears* to be in a downward cycle that hasn't quite bottomed out. Ohio State has been a perennial have not for over a decade, but the Buckeyes are making waves about becoming a "have" by the end of the decade. As for the Michigan recruits posted to Info-H-L...finally! I was beginning to wonder when we'd get the official word on more signings. Of course, even though the Wolverines are the current NCAA champs, their recruiting news is still buried in a small article in the middle of THE ANN ARBOR NEWS' sports sections. And, even though brief, the article contains at least one blatant error. Typical. Both are expected, but I find the constant inaccuracies far more annoying than the level of coverage. (begin quoted material) Sean Peach, a 6-0, 180-pound defenseman, played this past season with the Powell River Paper Kings of the British Columbia Hockey League. Current Wolverine Robb Gordon is also from the Paper Kings. (end quoted material) Either the article was written over a year ago, or someone failed to realize that Robb Gordon bolted from Ann Arbor last summer to play for Kelowna in the WHL. Robb scored well over 100 points for Kelowna, picked up a gold medal with Team Canada at the WJC and inked a deal with the Vancouver Canucks. I believe he joined the Syracuse Crunch in time for the AHL playoffs (if Syracuse was/is in the playoffs). But, I don't think Robb will be fitted for a 1996 NCAA ring. Fwiw, the BCJHL has been very good to Michigan in the 1990s. The five Wolverine BCers that immediately come to mind are: (1) David Oliver -- All-America, Hobey Baker finalist, currently with the Edmonton Oilers. (2) Brendan Morrison -- two time All-America, two time Hobey Baker finalist, NCAA winning goal, will be a senior at UM. (3) Bill Muckalt -- the sniper on Morrison's right wing, will be a junior at UM. (4) Robb Gordon -- tremendous talent, played only one season at UM. I can only imagine Michigan's firepower with Gordon on the 1995-96 and 1996-97 rosters. (5) Sean Peach -- the only defenseman on the list, entering UM. With the current incoming freshman class at three, Michigan's 1995-96 roster breaks down like this: FORWARDS (14) seniors(5) -- Botterill, Legg, Luhning, Madden, Morrison juniors(2) -- Herr, Muckalt sophomores(6) -- Assenmacher (did not dress in 1995-96), Clark, Crozier, Hayes, Ritchlin, Rominski freshmen(1) -- Merrick DEFENSEMEN(8) seniors(4) -- Bourke, Frescoln, Schock, Sloan juniors(1) -- Fox sophomores(1) -- Berenzweig freshmen(2) -- Magnuson, Peach GOALTENDERS(3) juniors(2) -- Malicke, Turco sophomores(1) -- Daddario John H ([log in to unmask]) HOCKEY-L is for discussion of college ice hockey; send information to [log in to unmask], The College Hockey Information List.
