All this talk is very interesting about SUNY going to Div.I. I have often wondered why there was no DivI programs in the SUNY system. It appears obvious that the "university centers" are planning on making the jump, but what about the colleges that have top notch Div III programs - like Plattsburgh's hockey team or Potsdam's basketball? Would they attempt something sleazy like transplanting the team? (i.e. move the Plattsburgh hockey team to Buffalo). Wasn't that attempted at UMASS when they wanted to start a hockey program in Amherst (by sucking the Lowell team to Amherst)? If DivI hockey was implemented somewhere in the SUNY system I think that this would be good for the sport. I grew up in a suburb of NYC and it seems like at least 50% of the people I went to high school with went to college at a SUNY school (that number is a huge guess). At any rate, many people in the area I lived in (Westchester county) go to SUNY schools. A DivI hockey team might be able to spur interest in the NYC area. Lot's of people from Long Island at those schools too. The only unfortunate thing is that those who don't go to college upstate think of anything north of Poughkeepsie as Canada. I think that it might be difficult to generate interest with them. -Mike -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mike Kahn "I swear by my life and my love of it, that I Whittaker Xyplex will never live for the sake of another man, Littleton, MA nor ask another man to live for mine." e-mail: [log in to unmask] -John Galt et al ------------------------------------------------------------------------ HOCKEY-L is for discussion of college ice hockey; send information to [log in to unmask], The College Hockey Information List.
