It's been around since at least fall '87, which admittedly is after Greg's
undergrad career, but not very long after.

I'm still waiting for someone to get the cowbell cheer *right*.  The finish
for the first three bars of each half (follow me so far?) has historically
been three sixteenth notes, not the two eighth notes they play these days;
that's one of the things that made it difficult enough that only one or two
people every four years had the guts to try it in public, earning the right
to "inherit" it.
