It was just announced today by athletic director Rick Comley that Northern Michigan University has plans to construct a new, 3,500 seat arena ON CAMPUS as opposed to on city property, where their current facility is located. Although no plans or contracts are finalized, it appears the city of Marquette is not interested in "wooing" the Wildcats by agreeing to build a new rink themselves, therefore the current arena, Lakeview Arena, will turn it's focus to youth hockey and other tournament events. No estimated completion dates have been announced at this time. PS - Does this mean the end to the infamous "Donor's Room?" Time will tell. (the bar that serves alcoholic beverages at Wildcat hockey games, within the arena itself; allowed under NCAA rules, since the games were "off campus") HOCKEY-L is for discussion of college ice hockey; send information to [log in to unmask], The College Hockey Information List.
