Rumors to the effect that Tim Thomas has jumped are not true. He is, however, playing for the U.S. national team at the World Championships in Vienna, Austria (April 21-May 5). He is one of three goalies on the roster: Parris Duffus (formerly of Cornell) and John Grahame (Lake State) are the other two. Duffus started the first four games, leading USA to a 3-1 record with 28 saves in a 5-1 win over Austria; 34 saves in a 4-2 win over Germany; 20 saves in a 3-1 loss to Russia; and 18 saves in a 4-3 win over Slovakia. Thomas got his first start Sunday night (April 28), stopping 36 of 41 shots in a 5-1 loss to Canada. That put Team USA's record at 3-2-0. Canadian goaltender Martin Brodeur registered 17 saves, while former UMaine standout Paul Kariya had the hat trick for Canada. The U.S. will meet Sweden in the quarterfinal round Tuesday. Tim Thomas' rights are owned by the Colorado Avalanche.
