John Whelan opined earlier >"Amherst" is of course a private institution, the one whose biggest sporting >acheivement this year seems to have been a scoreless tie in football with Williams.) I can understand why you'd think so. Precious little ever seems to appear even in the Boston papers about Amherst; the chances of your finding anything in the news in the Ithaca area are next to none. It is frustrating in the extreme to have a son playing for the Lord Jeffs and not even see the line scores appear, much less an article. HOWEVER, just to set the record straight: the Amherst hockey team rebounded from a four-league-win season a year ago to capture the ECAC East Division III title this March, and coach Jack Arean was selected ECAC Division III Coach of the Year. To make a better connection with the "names" thread, in Massachusetts when you say "Amherst" the inevitable response is "Oh, you mean UMass!" Mighty frustrating, believe me. Although located in the same small town, the schools are as different as any two schools can be. Imagine the level of confusion if Amherst were Division I too!!
