People from such far away places as Cascadilla Hall, the Commons, and Trumansburg gathered this morning on the east side of Cornell's campus. There was not to be a speech by the illustrious Carl Sagan or alumnus Janet Reno. Instead, the masses flocked to the Field House as tickets for this weekend's Cornell/Colgate ECAC quarterfinal went on sale to the general public. Upon arriving at the Field House at 8:45 AM (tix went on sale at 9), I expected for there be a considerable line. I scoffed at the idea that there would be a massive line like those I had heard stories about from those at Cornell in the 1970s and 80s. I was wrong. My face met with those of several hundred as I took my place at the end of a long line that snaked through the Field House. Two hours and ten minutes later, I gazed down at the fruits of my toil, and the reason I cut my first class of the day: the almighty tickets. Indeed, the holy tickets seemed to glisten as I departed into the 6 inches of snow that had already fallen in Ithaca. In all seriousness, the line was still huge when I got my tickets. As of 11 AM (when I got my tickets), sections A through E were sold out and most of F too. For those not familiar with Lynah, that is the whole south half of the rink. I don't even know what sections were sold out for the townspeople (the one line diverged into 3 as there were three windows, 2 for Cornell students only, and one for anyone....all I know is that the student line had nothing from B thru E and only like 5 tickets for A and not much more for F). Alot of this area was taken earlier in the week when tickets when on sale for season ticket holders only. Still, just looking at the line when I left, I would not be surprised to hear that the games are sold out. Tix were sold only for Friday's and Saturday's games. If there is a Game 3 on Sunday, I was told that tickets will probably go on sale at noon gameday. This should be fun.
