>At Michigan, single game hockey tickets are priced at $9 for the general
>public, although tickets are hard to come by especially for the big games.
>Season tickets for the general public are roughly $160. Yost was routinely
>filled to capacity of 7200 this year with increased season ticket sales to
>both students and general public accounting for approx. 70% of the total.

I assume there is a discount for students, but I will figure it on $9 anyway:
$9 * 7200 = $64800/game * 20games/year = $1,296,000 year

>As for hockey as compared to other sports, single game basketball tickets
>are $12-15 and in spite of the fact that Michigan was in the Top 25 in
>basketball for part of the year, several games were not a sell-out -
>capacity at Crisler is 13,500.

$13.50 * 13500 = $182250/game * 15 games/year = $2,733,750/year

>capacity at Crisler is 13,500. On the other hand, football is king - single
>game tickets are $30 however the entire stadium, capacity 106,000 is sold
>out on a season basis and has been for 25 years.

Yikes. $30 * 106000 = $3.18 Mil/Game * 6 Games = $19.08 Million/Year!

Do we know now why ESPN doesn't show more college hockey?

Now at UMD:
Hockey:
$3 * 500 students = $ 1500
$5 * 500 children = $ 2500
$9 * 4500 Gen. Pub. = $40500
Total $44500/game * 20 games/year = $890,000/year

Basketball
Students free = $ 0
$2 * 250 (maybe) Gen. Pub. = $500
Total $500/game * 20 games/year = $10,000/year

Football
Students free = $ 0
$2 * 500 (maybe) Gen. Pub. = $1000
Total $1000/game * 6 games/year = $6,000/year

So Michigan makes more in it's third highest sport than UMD makes in its
top three combined.

Of course, you never hear about UMD going on probation like D-I schools.
(NO, I am not saying Michigan, just other D-I schools.)
