and

To summarize the articles

1. Jimmy Collins has accepted the UIC head basketball coach offer
2. He has a 5-year contract for "a significant increase" over $90,000/year
3. Collins attorney said it includes "a major commitment to upgrade the
program"
4. The funds are expected to come from killing the hockey program
5. An announcement about the hockey program is expected later this week

My personal question

If UIC basketball won 20+ games in 1993-1994, 18 games in 1994-1995 and
just missed an automatic NCAA bid by losing 4 conference championships yet
still barely outdrew a hockey program that while improving still wasn't
getting very many wins, how is all this upgrading going to help?

If the program dies or rather is killed, my condolences to the UIC fans and
particularly the players. In one of the articles yesterday an unnamed
adminstrator said something about they were trying to act in the best
interests of the players. Well, I guess we'll see about that at the end of
the week.
