>The weekly hockey column in today's Cincinnati Enquirer had a couple >columns on MiamiU goalie Eustice King, and mentioned that he is one of >only 2 African Americans playing in Div1 hockey, along with Mike Grier. >Is this the case? I'm sure there are others(Anson Carter comes to >mind-though he may be Canadian of birth). > >My questions are: Is this guy wrong? and do Canadians refer to "persons >of color" as African-Canadians? I can think of a few guys playing in the CCHA (sorry, can't help you with the other conferences). Mike Peron with Illinois-Chicago is from Newmarket, Ont. I know Lake Superior has a black guy playing for them (I hesitate to say African-American because I'm pretty sure he's from Canada). King is from Evanston, Ill. Anson Carter is from Scarborough, Ont. Jamal Mayers from Western Michigan is from Mississauga, Ont. Now, I don't know any of these guys personally (but I have met most of them and seen them play), so if one or more of them isn't really black, I hope no one gets offended. I'm just going by looks.
