While I am reluctant to further fan the ref bashing from the SLU/RPI game, it is worth noting that the call which led to the SLU goal with 16 seconds left was the THIRD penalty called in the last 1:30 of the game. At about the 1:30 mark, one ref's arm went up for a delayed penalty on an RPI player while the Saints (not the Larries (:>)) were applying some good pressure in the RPI end. The whistle blew as the puck got tied up among players jostling in the corner. A second penalty was called on SLU's Pat Dennehy for "elbowing" at that time, keeping the teams at even strength. That meant that the later penalty with a bit more than 0:30 left put the Saints on a 4 on 3 power play for the winning goal. So much for swallowing the whistles late in a tight game. Contrary to the original score sheet, the winning goal was scored by defenseman Jeff Kungle (his first of the year) -- a bit of sweet revenge as Kungle was laid out by a stick to the head (and no call) earlier in the game. All-in-all it was a pretty exiting game to watch. RPI was very quick going up the ice -- looking very explosive at times, but giving up lots of 2-on-1's at others. Very surprising that the score was just 1-1 when the last minute events occurred.
