CC loses its first > game this year (15-1-3). DU is 16-3-1. Wow. Finally, in the 4th year of the cup, Jack McDonald (Former Denver University Athletic Director) had his vision realized. The boston folk have known for years about something called the beanpot where 4 boston teams play a series in the home of the local NHL team. When Jack started the Denver Cup Tournament, the whole state didn't have 4 NCAA hockey teams, (and still doesn't) and there wasn't even professional hockey in denver. Colorado College was still in its Brad Buetow days and Frank Serratore was coaching at DU. Both teams were not doing particularly well. For the first two years, the tournament was played at the DU arena, and then last year it moved to McNichols Arena home (for that year only) of the minor league champion Denver Grizzlies. The Grizzlies were displaced when the Quebec Nordiques became the Colorado Avalanche. Apparently, schedules are set up so far in advance that this was the first year that CC could fit the tournament into its schedule. Thanks, Jack, for the vision and foresight to start this ball rolling. Sorry you weren't here to see your dream become a reality. Two top 10 teams looking for bragging rights and playing to a packed house. charlie shub University of Colorado at Colorado Springs [log in to unmask] -or- [log in to unmask] (719) 593 3492 (fax) 593-3369 HOCKEY-L is for discussion of college ice hockey; send information to [log in to unmask], The College Hockey Information List.
