To whomever said that Shawn Walsh is hockey's Jerry Tarkanian, that seems just a LITTLE off base to me. I have been a completely neutral and uninvolved observer of this story for the past years, and to me it seems that if big-time football and B-ball were held to the standards applied to the Maine hockey program quite a few schools would have their revenue streams dry up overnight. Walsh may be guilty of misconduct, but the offenses simply were not in the same league (or planet) with Tarkanian -- or Miami, or Alabama, or Southern Methodist for that matter. And in my opinion they weren't enough to get him fired. And let's be honest. Walsh has a lot of good and attractive qualities which Maine obviously did not want (or should have) to lose. -- Dick Tuthill HOCKEY-L is for discussion of college ice hockey; send information to [log in to unmask], The College Hockey Information List.
