I'm not sure about national rulings on the matter but I do know that the
University of Alaska Fairbanks prohibits student athletes from participating
in their own IM sport.  However, hockey players may play intramural
basketball, for instance.  Also, I've personally played shinny hockey with
UAF players at the campus rink during holiday breaks and non-game weekends,
so there's no University ruling against that either.
