Hello kids......

I was trying to stay out of the Great Rinks debate after the comments about
Munn being a dump.......well, I guess the writer of the comment didn't
realize what a pot he'd stir........but I guess he's not been fortunate
enough to travel to some of the eastern rinks...

No offense to Mike Machnik, but the Volpe Complex to me is the worst rink
I've ever been in.......it's always cold and it looks like a high school
rink to me because it's attached to the basketball arena.....but even with
all that, it still has character....

All of the Eastern rinks have character.....some are older than
others....some are more historic than others, but they all have character to
them......Go to the ECAC and travel around....you'll see some old classics
like Gutterson Fieldhouse and Houston Field House.....then you'll go see the
Bright Center and see a newer rink right on campus that is as cold as
Volpe......travel to the other side of Boston and see BU's 70's Walter Brown
Arena and the newly renovated Matthews Arena at NU.....and then go see BC's
Conte Forum only a few years old.......

Even out west.....go see the Gem of the North that Monoghan built at Lake
State and then go to Western and Northern Michigan to see some old
barns.....they are all great.....I guess what I'm trying to say is that just
because you don't like a rink doesn't make it a dump or dingy.....just
different!!!

Travel a little and you will see what I'm talking about......

Yours in the Bond of chaos in College Hockey,
Jon Barkan
