In Drop the Puck's Yearbook, it is said that Jack Parker may move Chris O'Sullivan back to D with the lack of depth at that position that BU will have this season. I'm curious to hear what BU followers think of this move. It is true that the Terriers will be hard pressed to replace Linna and Brennan, two All-America blueliners. And, BU returns only five Ds (Coleman, Johnson, Wood, Kelleher, and Kealty) with Alger becoming eligible in January and rookie Dan Ronan an unknown. So there may be no choice; no other forward seems a likely candidate to move back to D. But, what effect will moving O'Sullivan (23-33--56) back to D have on the offense, even if it is for only half a year? He was a prime reason for the blossoming of Grier last season, but if he goes back to D, who will get Grier the puck? Pandolfo? Drury? Last year the Terriers were deep enough up front that when Grier was contained, which happened a number of times, there were enough other players to pick up the slack. Now opponents may be able to shut down a large portion of the Terrier offense if they stop Grier, and BU may be contributing to that by taking O'Sullivan away from him. Also, switching O'Sullivan to D will leave BU with only 13 forwards including four freshmen and a couple of upperclassmen who were solid fourth-liners but have yet to prove they can be counted on in a bigger role. And back on D, Kealty, who was allowed to develop at his own pace last year, will no longer be afforded that luxury. He has to play, and BU followers will have to hope that his late-season improvement was indeed followed by a strong off-season to prepare him for the much larger role he'll need to take. Lack of depth will apparently be a problem that BU will have to deal with this year. It could help bring them back to the pack a bit and make things interesting in HE. BU could really use a Ken Rausch this season. --- --- Mike Machnik [log in to unmask] *HMM* 11/13/93 >> Co-owner of the College Hockey Lists at University of Maine System << ***** Unofficial Merrimack Hockey home page under construction at: ***** ***** http://www.tiac.net/users/machnik/MChockey/MChockey.html ***** HOCKEY-L is for discussion of college ice hockey; send information to [log in to unmask], The College Hockey Information List.
