Reply to: RE>>hockey movie trivia During the Phinal Phour back in March, I had a chance to talk to JEFF CARLSON (#18) at one of the bars they appeared at in Providence. According to him, everything that happened in "Slap Shot" was based on events that actually happened. It was all "slightly" exaggerated, and of course it didn't all happen to just one team. For example. there was a goon minor leaguer with a big afro-type hair style named "Goldthorpe." So there really are three Carlson brothers - Jeff, STEVE (#17), and Jack. However, Jack was not available for the filming, so DAVE HANSON (#16) took the role of the third brother. I don't know whether they played for Northern Michigan or not, but they all did actually play hockey - Jeff in the WHA and with the Pacific Hockey League Phoenix Roadrunners in '77-'78, Steve in the WHA and with the LA KIngs. Not sure of Dave Hanson's background though. John -------------------------------------- Date: 9/20/95 6:02 PM From: Jason B. The Hansonbrothers were not all brothers, one was a cousin they never actually played organized hockey as far as I know. They are, however, touring minor league hockey rinks as a novelty act.
