Chris Warner posted an interesting message where he listed the scores of the Middlebury hockey team in 1960-61. He stated that the team went 19-2 although his source gave a record of 20-1. In any case, they lost to RPI 5-4 and perhaps one more game. RPI made the NCAA tournament that year. (This was before it became the NC$$ tournament :-) .) I wonder if Middlebury would have been chosen instead of RPI had they won that game. They weren't using anything as scientific as the RPI index to determine the invitees, and I do not know if there were any scheduling criteria for inviting teams, but Middlebury did beat a number of teams that are now Div-I including Clarkson. (Perhaps the deciding factor was that Middlebury beat AIC "only" 16-0 while RPI beat them 17-0 :-) .) Well, it's the off season, so hopefully nobody minds too much about discussions of 35-year old teams. It does seem more relevant than some off-season discussions that we have had this year and in previous years. Ralph Baer RPI '68, '70, '74
