Quick hits... Earnings restrictions have been lifted for "restricted earnings" coaches. (A Federal judge ruled against the NCAA in a lawsuit.) Beginning in 1996, the NCAA Division III tourney will have 3-4 teams from the West region and 4-5 teams from the East region. Institutional Secondary Infraction: Division I Institution "admonished" individual in charge of game management because the attendance of two HS hockey teams was announced over the PA. No eligibility consequences. Administrative Review Panel actions: case 830 Player entered his sophomore season in 1994-95 and signed financial aid agreement for entire academic year. Player was then told during pre- season that he would be cut from team and financial aid would cease following first semester. Player transferred (to another Div I school) following first semester. Player and/or current institution wish to have player eligible now (hence, waiving the one academic year in residence requirement) on the grounds that original school illegally terminated financial aid. Denied. case 715 Player participated in 1994 Olympics and did not attend school in 1993-94 (although, presumably did in 1992-93). Player returned to school for Summer 1994 classes. Coach told player that school would pay for summer tuition. However, rules state that player must have attended at least one semester during previous academic year (which he did not) to have summer tuition paid. School requested waiver (so that they may pay his summer tuition) and supported player's Olympic participation and desire to return to school and graduate on time. Granted. (I'm *guessing* that this was Chris Imes.) Eligibility Appeals: Division I Head coach faxed info to Prospective Student Athlete's mother during the same week he called the PSA. Also, current SAs without meal card were given two pregame meals, etc, etc, etc. Eligibility has been restored to PSA/SAs. NCAA is still reviewing institution. On the job market, Ohio State seeks an assistant coach, Wentworth I of T (ECAC South) seeks a head coach and Maine is looking for an AD. Out of time... John H U Mich
