Fellow Hockey-lers: I INADVERTANTLY sent a message to the list yesterday (June 10). I was working from home and I don't know how it happened. Obviously the message was not intended for Hockey-L. I'm sorry that I filled your mail boxes with my personal drivel. I'll endeavor to make sure it doesn't happen again. Mandatory hockey content: I am very glad that the administration at Cornell woke up and got rid of McCutcheon. Although his overall record is slightly better than .500, his record since the team has been made up entirely of his recruits has been pathetic, including failing to make the ECAC playoffs one season. It seems to me that Cornell can not compete for talent with the BU's, Maine's, Michigan's, and Minnesota's because they do not offer athletic scholarships. However, they SHOULD be able to compete with the other Ivies and field a competetive ECAC squad. This certainly has not been the case the last 3-4 seasons. So my advice to AD Moore: 1) Hire a proven DI recruiter; 2) Hire a coach that will be able to motivate those recruits (McCutcheon sure couldn't); and finally 3) Hire a coach that will stress the fundamentals (passing, skating, defensive assignments, forechecking). I'm already looking forward to next season. As my mother-in-law (Ithaca resident, Cornell '64) so aptly put it: "McCuthcheon was fired. I guess we'll keep our season tickets." :-) Eric Hoffman Cornell '88 SUNY-Albany '95 and ?? Let's Go RED!
