Headline: Butters will honor Bethel commitment Publish Date: 05/16/1995 Matthew Cross Staff Reporter After having reservations about leaving the Gophers hockey program last week, former assistant coach Bill Butters has decided to honor his verbal agreement with Bethel College next season. Butters called Gophers coach Doug Woog last week to say he was having second thoughts about leaving because of his love of Gophers hockey. Originally, Butters feared his pride was at stake after he verbally committed to be an assistant coach at Bethel. Woog said that was one of the major reasons Butters eventually decided to go to Bethel. "I think it worked out the way it should have," Woog said. "It's a situation where the integrity issue becomes a big factor (and) I think it was the right way to go." Woog said Butters' decision was based on his family, which took precedence over his love of Gophers hockey. Butters' son, Ben, transferred to Bethel to play hockey under his father. For Woog, the goal is now to find a coach as quickly as possible. A search committee of at least six people will meet later this week to whittle the handful of applicants down to two or three. "I have my feelings and I think there's one or two people out there that could do a real good job," Woog said. "There's no deadline, but I would like to have it decided by next Friday." Carol S.
