Headline: U hockey adds Berg to 1995 recruiting class Publish Date: 04/14/1995 The Gophers hockey team announced Thursday the signing of Reggie Berg to a national letter of intent. Berg, a native of Anoka, Minn., spent the last two seasons playing for the Des Moines Buccaneers of the United States Hockey League. Berg had 39 goals and 42 assists in 46 games this season. He was voted to the All-USHL second team. Berg is the fifth player signed by coach Doug Woog and his staff this season. The others are Erik Rasmussen of St. Louis Park, Mike Anderson of Bloomington Jefferson, Wyatt Smith of Warroad and Billy Kohn, a Roseville native, who played for the USHL's St. Paul Vulcans this season. ------------ (end article, begin Pam's ramblings:) This has been expected for months. I think Berg visited campus the weekend AFTER the early signing period last fall and gave a verbal commitment. But now it's official, Doug Woog's "Bigger, Faster, Nastier" recruiting class is complete. I believe Rasmussen, Anderson, Smith, and Berg are all forwards. (Berg DID play a little D at Anoka High, I think, but prefers forward.) And Kohn is a defenseman. Which is a good mix for the Gophers, since they lose no defensemen (assuming Jason Godbout makes a full and speedy recovery), 3 forwards and a goalie this year. -Pam Sweeney Go Gophers!!! 1995 NC$$ Phinal Phour!!!
