I meant not to get into the Joubert/Maine thing, but... One item that has not been mentioned is that the person who wrote the article for SI (I still don't know who it was) was supposed to have been asking leading questions of various people and this may have resulted in the quote. It doesn't excuse what Joubert said, especially if he did say it, but it may help in understanding how the quote came to be printed. In fact, I have heard from two different people, one from Maine, who suggested that this was taking place. The reporter was, I am told, asking certain questions of Shawn Walsh in an attempt to get something juicy, especially right after the championship game, but Walsh is more adept at picking up on these things where Joubert may not have been. And without hearing the BU/Joubert side, it is difficult to know exactly in which context the quote may have been made - or even if Joubert was quoted correctly. After all, we have an excellent example from HOCKEY-L last year in which a reporter with an agenda created a story where none existed. During the Maine-BU playoff series, Tony Biscardi was asked a few questions by a Maine reporter and as he has told me and others, he made sure to choose his words carefully. I do not recall exactly what was written, but Tony maintains that he was grossly misquoted in such a way to make it appear that he was criticizing Maine where he says he was not. Personally...without hearing the context of the quote, I am not going to place much emphasis upon it. Apparently Shawn Walsh felt the same way, too, as someone from Maine told me. Hopefully this will help lay the matter to rest. But I guess we have to have something to discuss in the off-season. --- --- Mike Machnik [log in to unmask] Cabletron Systems, Inc. *HMM* 11/13/93
