I'm not trying to incite any Woog arguments here, but I'm curious about something. Let's say I'm a top Division I hockey recruit from outside of Minnesota and I want to play at Minnesota. If Doug Woog won't allow me to even walk-on, is he guilty of discrimination in this world of political- correctness-gone-haywire that we live in? Since it's unlikely that a top recruit would walk-on somewhere, let's change it to Joe Q. Public from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Joe has always dreamed of being a Gopher and he'd like to try to make the team as a walk-on. Is he allowed? If not, does he have a case? As I said, I'm just curious what a situation like this would bring about. Would denying someone the opportunity to play at a certain University because of where he/she is from be likened to denying someone because of their ethnic background, religious beliefs, etc.? I hope not, but then again, you never know when you live in a country where someone can sue McDonald's because their coffee is too hot. Just stretching for something to talk about in the offseason, Chuck --My take on the whole Minnesota recruiting thing is that there's no other state that could do it and be as successful. But, at the same time, I think it holds them back from being the best that they can be. The best 20 players in North America do not come from Minnesota each year.
