Wisconsin State Journal 10 Mar 95 You won't be able to hear University of Wisconsin hockey games on WTSO Radio (1070 AM) after this season. This was the decision of David Graupner, the station's vice president and general manger. "We're going to drop hockey," Grauper said Thursday. "It's duplicated programming of what WIBA (1310 AM) is already providing. We made the decision to concentrate on professional sports rather than college sports." The move ends a 20-year tradition of broadcasting Badgers hockey. Sports director Jack Swanson and Wisconsin State Journal sports editor Bill Brophy have teamed to do the broadcasts for the past five season. Swanson, who has broadcast UW hockey for nine seasons, will be leaving the station April 7. "We'll continue to have a commitment to sports," Graupner said. "One of the most immediate moves is we'll be carrying more Milwaukee Bucks games on the air. We were bumping games that couldn't be heard anywhere else in town to broadcast a hockey game that is broadcast on another station in town." _______________________________________________________________________________ No word on how this will affect the Badger Hockey Radio Network or -The Jeff Sauer Show- with Jack Swanson and Bill Brophy on WKOW (TV 27). WTSO lost Badger Football and Men's Basketball to WIBA and WOLX (94.9 FM) last year. Brad And ON WISCONSIN!
