There must be some kind of jinx on the Tigers this year involving away
games on Saturday night that are broadcasted on tv....We lost at Wisconsin
when it was on ESPN2, lost at Minnesota when it was on MSC, and lost last
night at Denver when it was on PSN.
CC started the game off with a bang, with a score just 14 seconds into the
game by Chad Remackel. Antti Laaksonen evened things up for Denver about a
minute and a half later, and then gave the Pioneers the lead at 10:04. Jay
McNeill would return the favor to even things up again a minute later, but
then it went downhill from there for the Tigers, as DU pounded them, both
on the scoreboard and on the ice. Jason Elders and Dave Klasnick both got
goals to end the period up 4-2.
During the second, both teams had some shots, but nothing went in until
3 seconds left in the period when Petri Gunther got a power play goal. There
were a couple of roughing penalties in this period, including double roughings
and misconducts for Paul Koch and Jay McNeill when Koch objected to McNeill's
slashing him, jumping on his back and holding him to the ice.
The third started off with a second delay of game penalty to the Pioneers
for stuff being thrown on the ice from the student section (the first was
towards the end of the first period). Denver got in two more goals, from
Erik Andersson and a power-play goal from Warren Smith. The Tigers finally
got their third goal at 13:14 from R.J. Enga, but by that point it was just
a matter of how much we would lose the game by. Lambert returned to the
net after the 6th DU goal (he started, then was pulled in the first after
their 3rd goal) to finish the game.
Hopefully the Tigers will work hard in practice this week so as to play
well for the playoffs against Alaska Anchorage this weekend and not take
stupid penalties. Any team in the league can take advantage of situations
like that, and we don't need it happening then.
