While most resurfacers (Zambonis) are now fueled by the cleaner burning
propane and natural gas (and hence, lower CO readings), there are still
many arenas that have gasoline burning machines. Propane and natural
gas, when being used in properly tuned machines, do reduce CO, but do not
eliminate it. They also contribute to the hazard of NO2. If an arena
can afford the $80,000, an electric resurfacer is the only way to
eliminate these polluntants.
