This morning's USA Today has an article, "Holzinger could give college game a boost," by Kevin Allen. He says that if BG's Brian Holzinger wins the Hobey Baker it could help change people's perception that only player's without a future in the NHL can win the award. His agent, Steve Bartlett, says people in the NHL are prejudiced about college hockey, that they think the best way to become an NHL player is to play in junior hockey. Coach Ron Wilson of the Mighty Ducks refutes that perception. He thinks a player who gets good coaching in college learns to be a good hockey player and also is given a chance to mature. The article includes a list of Hobey Baker award winners and where they are playing now. The table gives games played, goals, assists and total points, but I'll only list where they are now: 1981 Neal Broten, Minnesota New Jersey (NHL) 1982 Geoge McPhee, BGSU Retired 1983 Mark Fusco, Harvard Retired 1984 Tom Kurvers, Minn.-Duluth Anaheim (NHL) 1985 Bill Watson, Minn.-Duluth Retired 1986 Scott Fusco, Harvard Retired 1987 Tony Hrkac, North Dakota Milwaukee (IHL) 1988 Robb Stauber, Minnesota Buffalo (NHL) 1989 Lane McDonald, Harvard Left hockey due to injury 1990 Kip Miller, Mich.
