MIAMI UNIVERSITY'S CHUCK THUSS RECEIVES TERRY FLANAGAN AWARD

ANN ARBOR, MI -- The coaches of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association are
proud to present the Terry Flanagan Memorial Award to Chuck Thuss for his
commitment to community service, his support of campus activities and his
strength and resolve in accepting and meeting serious personal challenges.

The Terry Flanagan Memorial Award is presented annually to an upperclassmen
(junior or senior) letterwinner who has overcome some form of personal
adversity to achieve success both on and off the ice. In addition to this
player's on-ice performance, he must be involved in extracurricular activities
both on and off campus. The award winner is selected by a committee which
includes CCHA coaches and faculty representatives.

Terry Flanagan served as a graduate assistant and full-time assistant coach for
11 seasons at Bowling Green State University beginning in 1981. During his
tenure, the Falcons won four CCHA regular-season championships, one CCHA
Playoff title, and made nine appearances in the CCHA Finals at Joe Louis Arena
in Detroit. Terry also helped lead Bowling Green to six berths in the NCAA
Tournament, and one NCAA Championship crown in 1984. Terry's devotion to his
family carried over into his coaching. He often gave of himself spending
countless hours at the rink after practice helping those who wanted to improve
their game. It is with great respect and admiration for Terry Flanagan, and
the way he carried himself on and off the ice, that the CCHA presents the Terry
Flanagan Memorial Award.

Chuck Thuss, a senior goaltender at Miami University, exemplifies all the
qualities listed above. Thuss did not see any action with the Redskin varsity
hockey team his first three years after coming to Miami as a walk-on goalie.
He was a stalwart in the Redskins' net this season playing in nearly 2,000
minutes and compiling a record of 16-10-6 with a 2.87 goals-against average and
a .901 saves percentage.

Off the ice, Thuss involves himself in a variety of on-campus services. At
Miami, he is a volunteer for Therapeutic Recreation for the Disabled in a learn
to skate program, and was actively involved in promotion of Redskin hockey
through team functions in the Oxford area. He also served as a volunteer
coach in the Oxford Youth Hockey Association.

He came to Miami in the fall of 1991 and had to sit out his first year due to
NCAA regulations. The past two years he served as the back-up goalie to
Richard Shulmistra and this season won the CCHA Best Goaltender Award for
having the lowest goals-against average in league play (minimum 900 minutes).
He was also selected first-team All-CCHA goalie as well as finishing second in
the CCHA Player-of-the-Year balloting.

Through his desire, perseverance and unheralded dedication and for his
outstanding commitment to hockey and the community in which he lives, it is
with great pleasure that the CCHA honors Chuck Thuss as the third winner of the
Terry Flanagan Memorial Award.
