Any one of the four seniors could've received this award but, IMO, Robitaille was the most consistent. Honorable mention to other 3 seniors (Claude Morin, Brian Mueller, Marko Tuomainen). MOST VALUABLE PLAYER Brian Mueller (Sr, D). Some people wouldn't distinguish between these two awards but I do. Robitaille had the best year, IMO, but clearly Mueller is the most valuable player to our team. While the freshman and others are solid defensively, if Mueller were to have gotten injured, it would've seriously hurt our transition game and I think the forwards would've suffered too. I define MVP as the player whose contributions would be hardest to replace (w/present lineup). Honorable mention to freshman goalie Dan Murphy. ROOKIE OF THE YEAR Scott Ricci (Fr, D). It's a really tough call since all of the freshman made important contributions but I would choose Ricci. The +19 rating is impressive too. He showed tremendous poise for a freshman and that's why I chose him. Honorable mention to the other three seniors who played a lot, being Chris Clark (fine future), Dana Mulvihill (an annoying pest... great to have on your team), Nicholas Windsor (similar mold as Ricci) & Dan Murphy (he played about 96% of the minutes as a frosh!; not a pretty style, perhaps, but he stopped the puck and held our team in games when needed). MOST SURPRISING PLAYER Jason Labarge (So, D). He was basically an unknown to most fans but in times of injuries and other shortages, Labarge was able to step in admirably. He's not particularly talented but makes up for it with smarts and guts. Honorable mention to Dan Murphy. =========BRI [log in to unmask] | US Soccer/Sam's Army in '98...FORZA LAZIO...Major Lg.
