The Black Bears are back on top of Hockey East again, with an 8-5 victory tonight the Bears clinched first place! Maine played two overwhelming periods of hockey tonight, leading 6-2 after two on goals by Wansborough, Thompson, Lovell (2), Shermerhorn, and Purdie. Jeff Daw tailed on in the first from Bullock, and then in the second Sbrocca scored when Blair Allison misplayed a clearing pass and Christian tailed in the open net. Maine seemed to park in the third period, and Allison was again less than sharp in net and Lowell scored three times in 9 minutes of that period. But Shermerhorn put it away on an empty net goal at 19:21. Allison allowed 2 VERY, VERY soft goals, and arguably one or two others. One, as I said before was a misplayed clearing attempt, the other a shot from behind the blue line. This game, just like the other one was very, very physical, and some might complain about the officiating, but it was pretty even NON-CALLING game. They let the boys play, sometimes too much, and it was very chippy, but things did not explode like the did the night before with fights and the such, and Lowell handled themselves much better than they did when Maine stompped them in Lowell. Crowder seems to be instilling more disipline, even though Bullock still takes constant dumb penalties! <smile> Lowell does look much better than they did in early Feb, and I would be wary of having to play them in a playoff game this season. ---- Deron Treadwell - [log in to unmask] You really didn't think it would take Maine long to reload did you?
