Northeastern 7, at Mass Amherst 3 BU 4, at Merrimack 1 PC 6, at UNH 6 (PC wins SO, 1-0) BU and MC were tied 1-1 after two, but Joubert scored the winner with 9:16 left and then BU added a late PPG and ENG. Game was much closer than the score indicates...BU was held to 14 shots after two but poured 18 shots on in the third for the win, and the game remained 2-1 until Grier's PPG with 3:13 left. Legault earned the number two star by stopping 28 of 31 shots. Merrimack had a goal at the buzzer at the end of the second called back after the officials conferred for a while in the locker room. A melee also occurred right after the controversial goal (or non-goal as it turned out) and two players from each side were given game DQs, one from each side given game misconducts. From BU Wright and Pierce and from Merrimack, Cornforth and Johnson will miss the rematch at BU. BU's Kelleher and MC's Poirier were ejected but not given DQs. PLAYOFF SITUATION BU clinched second and still has a shot at first. UNH will finish third. Maine's magic number for first remained at 5 points. NU clinched 5th and their magic number for 4th is 8 points. UML's magic number for 5th dropped to 5 points with Merrimack's loss. Merrimack's magic # for 6th is 7 pts, 2 for 7th. BC and PC are tied for 7th with 40 pts, but BC has a game in hand. So, right now only UNH (3rd) and UMA (9th) are guaranteed to finish where they are. But Maine (1st), BU (2nd), NU (4th), and UML (5th) appear all but certain to finish in those spots barring upsets the rest of the way. BU-MC box/notes to follow. --- --- Mike Machnik [log in to unmask] Cabletron Systems, Inc. *HMM* 11/13/93
