The following article appears in the February, 1995 issue of Tech Outlook (a publication of the Michigan Tech Alumni Association). New Hockey Squad Seeks Opposition Nope, Husky hockey coach Bob Mancini hasn't started a junior varsity squad. Thirteen women students have begun their second year as the MTU Women's Hockey Club. "There is talent out there," according to Stacey Clemens, who helped start the club. "They just need people to organize it." So Clemens and her roomate, Kerstin Henry, got the puck rolling. While last year was a struggle, this year the club has done some fund-raising and received a grant from the Undergraduate Student Government to purchase equipment and jerseys. The team also played its first game against another women's club: they battled the L'Anse Capitals to a 2-2 tie. For the future, the club hopes to expand its funding and schedule, searching for more women's teams for competition. [Editorial note: L'Anse is a town about 40 miles from Houghton. I don't know if the Captials are a high school or community team.] -- Garrett Lanzy Endicott, NY
