Steve's comments were right on the money about tonight's 2-2 overtime tie between Brown and Yale. I have generally been impressed by ECAC reffing this year, but tonight was an abomination. In the first period, after Yale was up 1-0, Yale's Weidenbach skated in towards Brown goalie Mike Parsons. Brown defenseman Charlie Humber caught up with Weidenbach (they were side by side) prior to hauling him down to the ice about 8 feet in front of the goal mouth. Many a time I have seen this go as a non-call, but Murphy somehow came up with the penalty shot call. Truly one of the worst calls I have ever seen in a hockey game. Weidenbach could only muster a weak shot on Parsons, but he redeemed himself a few minutes later with a goal to make it 2-0 Yale. Brown pulled within one early in the 2nd on a 5-3 power play goal by Tony Martino and tied the game on a goal by Rob Merrill late in the 2nd. Brown appeared to score in the third as the red light went on, but the referee waved off the goal , and Brown scored again at the 5:01 mark of overtime, but to of no avail. A couple comments: Yale played clutch and grap defense very effectively against the Bears tonight, effectively shutting them down except for the final 5:00 of the 2nd period when Brown was able to tie the game. Both goalies were impressive tonight (Parsons and Sullivan), and Brown has not had a lead in a game since Jan. 14th, relying heavily on the netminder to keep them in the games. We'll see tomorrow night if Princeton can retain its momentum from Friday night's victory over Harvard (I assume) and extend the Bears winless streak to five. Phil Johnson Brown '96
