In today's Boston Globe, it was announced that the ECAC has created the position of hockey commissioner and has bestowed the title upon Joe Bertagna. Bertagna was already the ECAC's executive director of hockey, but with his new title, he says that among his new responsibilities will be "media related things." "Some people aren't going to notice the change. It's just that I can take more initiative. We had some TV, but most of it was delayed. We'd like to get more live TV," said Bertagna. IMO, this can only mean good news for the conference. Out of the four conferences, the ECAC receives the least publicity, which adds to their image (IMHO undeserved) as a "weak" league. More live TV coverage will get the ECAC more recognition and also may help in recruiting. Joe Bertagna, from Arlington, MA, is a 1973 Harvard graduate and played goal for the Crimson (3.11 career GAA). He has also been sports information director at Harvard, a goaltending coach for the Boston Bruins, administrative assistant to the US Olympic team in 1994, and executive director of the American Hockey Coaches Association.
