>But by lumping ALL of the games between teams so close together >the effect is heightened. A legitimate complaint. But from talking to the CCHA coaches, playing one team many times in a close time span was not very important to them. Much more important: playing at home when you want to play at home, playing away when you want to play away (like during break), not playing too many home games (or away games) in a row, not having to move non- conference series, playing at home one night against one team and then playing away against another team the next night (just to name a few factors!) It all pretty much evens out. BG got lucky and played Miami before they got good (and went 2-0-1 vs them). They did not get lucky vs LSSU and are hitting them when they are finally playing well. MSU went 2-0-1 vs. UIC early in the season and now Michigan is struggling to go 2-1 against them. Also, the coaches have the last word and have the freedom to move series around after the league schedule is set. They will often rearrange games to be home or away at the best times, but as far as I know, none of the coaches have ever bothered to move games to avoid playing the same team in a short time span. Yes, the *perfect* CCHA schedule would spread out your 3 games against each team evenly over the season. But we have to settle for imperfect schedules that satisfy the most important factors. The league office tries to avoid scheduling the same teams in a short time span, but other factors are more important and often the only way to get a schedule that even works (ie all the games fit in) is to have some of these cases.
