Colorado College completes another league sweep this afternoon as they defeated
Northern Michigan 4-1. Both teams were skating well and taking quite a few
shots, but nothing went in the first two periods. The Tigers had at least
4 or 5 that bounced off the pipes. CC almost had a goal at the end of the
second period, but there was a man in the crease and the whistle clearly blew
before the puck crossed into the net (even though quite a few people in the
student section seemed to disagree and proceeded to yell and boo the
officials for it). The first goals of the game scored were during the second
intermission, when both of the shoot the puck contestants got it in on their
second try. :)
During the third period, the Wildcats finally got on the board first with a
power play goal by Dean Seymour. CC took over after that, though, as Stewart
Bodtker got a goal to even things up a minute and a half later. Colin
Schmidt gave the Tigers the lead on a power play goal, but there was still 10
minutes left in the game. Then, a high clearing pass by Northern was
intercepted when Peter Geronazzo batted it down with his hand, and he proceeded
to skate in on the goaltender and get the goal. CC's last goal was another
empty-netter with 20 seconds left by Ryan Reynard, as Northern had pulled
Mitchell for the extra man. Lambert made some great saves for the Tigers, and
I think he's pulled out of his slump.
CC now has 38 points in the WCHA, and depending on if Denver sweeps or splits
tonight, may regain their 7 point lead, as Wisconsin lost to St. Cloud 5-4
this afternoon. Next weekend the Tigers spend block break travelling to North
Dakota for a pair with the Fighting Sioux.
