After taking a weekend off and forgetting they had a couple of games to play against Ohio State last week, the Indiana hockey team picked up the slack this weekend in pummeling Xavier twice, 11-3 and 9-3, in a pair of nonconference matches. The Hoosiers jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first period of Friday's match, and never looked back. Tony Dilts got the win in goal...Saturday it came down to the Hoosiers' #3 line...Ryan Cohen, Sam Effarah, and Chris Quimby. Cohen scored the Hoosiers' first 2 goals and had a hat trick...while the seldom-used Effarah had two goals and Quimby had one. Bryan Lore, Geoff Heddle, and Jim Viscardi scored the other goals for IU...it could've been worse, but XU goaltender Shane Clifford came up with many key saves (and had this habit of knocking the net off its moorings at *exactly* the right time). David Kreppein garnered the win between the pipes for the Hoosiers. The Hoosiers will entertain MCHL leader Miami next weekend...the Redskins come into the games with an 8-0 record in conference play...IU is 6-2...Ohio State is in third in the conference with a 7-3 record. The conference tournament will be at the Frank Southern Center in Bloomington 2/24-25. Linescores...no boxes :-<. Friday... Xavier 0 2 1 -- 3 Indiana 6 2 3 --11 Saturday...
